Well, It’s been five months already, and I feel like I was here just yesterday, yet so many things have happened within a span of such a short time. When I turn back the pages of my diary, I feel my thoughts have transformed completely within these five months. I feel I’ve learned so much in so little time.

I had applied for the student visa sometime around early April of 2006. My family and I had rushed through the visa application process in order to complete it before the indefinite protests by the Seven-Party Alliance brought everything to a standstill. But we did manage to get it mailed before it.

I think people choose to go abroad to learn to be independent, working and studying on their own pocket, managing their own life, as one has to take care of everything from food, expenses, electricity, phone bills etc; basically learn tolive your own life which is not practical at home.

Life as I know it

29 January 2007 - the day I landed in Sydney. I knew for a fact ‘life as I knew it would not be the same anymore’. I had heard different things from different people about how life was here in Sydney, but experiencing it turned out to be totally different.

The setting of the sun and the shimmering lights of a late summer’s evening brought me to Sydney with a new level of excitement and dreams. It is always best to have someone you know when you travel to an unknown place, and for me, I was lucky to have Anish and Anup Dai to guide me through the initial stages. I got a place to stay, food to eat and friends to drive the loneliness away.

Australia, America, UK and other overseas countries are where students these days dream to be. I was one of them and so it was a dream come true for me when I landed in Sydney in July 2006. I was excited and anxious at the same time as I was stepping into a new world away from my family and my country. I knew it was time to slog.

I have been studying here in Sydney for almost a year now and have a completely different point of view to life here as compared to....

My experience

I really like this site and have been visiting before I was in Australia and still a big fan. I am in Melbourne and just thought to share my experience here and whats it like to come to australia as a international student.
